What is acne?

Acne is a condition caused by skin cells that do not shed properly and plug pores, causing oil and bacteria to be trapped inside. As oil and bacteria accumulate, the skin becomes inflamed and swells outward forming whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.

How does the treatment work?

Using our laser we deliver laser light through the skin’s surface triggering the body’s natural bacteria fighting defences. These defences then kill the problem causing bacteria reducing the severity of current and future acne.

What about before and aftercare?

If you are undergoing laser treatment, you must avoid exposure to the sun or tanning products for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment. After treatments you should ensure you continue to protect your skin against the damaging effects of the sun by utilising a sunscreen of SPF30, or above. After some treatments you will also be advised to avoid rigorous exercise, hot showers or saunas for 48 hours. For other treatments you will simply need to continue to use a good moisturizer. Your clinician will advise you of any special requirements.

Does it hurt?

All our treatments are non surgical and virtually painless, delivering a lasting visible result with minimal recovery time, All laser treatments are based on your skin type and will be assessed at your consultation. While being treated by the laser you will feel a mild sensation, which people describe as being similar to an elastic band flicked against the skin.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people require about 4 treatments, spaced out at 2 treatments each week for 2 weeks noticing some improvement in their acne by this stage. Repeated treatments may be necessary to maintain results.
